BLACK HISTORY MONTH



Lethbridge College celebrates Black History Month through February with events and activities to engage, educate and celebrate. This is an opportunity to gain knowledge of Canada’s Black History, the diversity of the Black community at Lethbridge College and around the world, and to honour the achievements and contributions of Black Canadians to Canada and the world.

 2024 Black History Month activities:


        

·        Thursday, February 1: Black History Month Opening Celebration

o  10 to 10:30 a.m.

o  Location: Centre Core

o  Start the month-long celebration with speeches and information about upcoming events


·        Thursday, February 1: Cultural Attire Day

o  Location: across campus

o  Wear attire that represents your culture as we celebrate the diversity at Lethbridge College. Share your culture and your stories!


·        Tuesday, February 6: Afro-Fusion Dance Class

o  11 a.m. to noon

o  Location: Fitness Studio (PE2408)

o  Elevate your groove! Join our Afro – Fusion Dance Class and unlock the rhythm within. Immerse yourself in a fusion of African beats and modern moves. Let’s dance together!

§ Zero experience needed! Students, staff, and community are welcome.

§ Recommended to wear active clothing and footwear. Theme colors are black, red, and green.

·        Wednesday, February 7: Afro-Fusion Dance Class

o  6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

·        Friday, February 9: Movie Night

o  6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

o  Location: Lethbridge Public Library, Crossings Branch (Friends Place)

o  Brand new this year! Lethbridge College is excited to partner with the Lethbridge Public Library and Chinook High School to bring three movie nights to the Lethbridge community. The movie screenings will be held at the Lethbridge Public Library Crossings Branch (Friends Place) and each week a different group will pick the movie. Join us for an evening (or three!) of free, fun film watching. All ages are welcome. Popcorn and beverages will be provided.

§ 6 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 23 – Lethbridge Public Library movie choice

·        Wednesday, February 14 and Thursday, February 15: Meal Kit pickup



·     Black History Month Meal Kit: Pilau

o  Meal description - Pilau is a specialty along the Swahili Coast in which Rice is flavored with spices and cooked in a well seasoned broth of Meat, Poultry or Fish. It is also a festive Dish which never misses at every special occasion.

o  Registration is open - Reserve your meal kit!

o  Pick up dates: February 14 and 15 at the LCSA office (CE 1350)


·        Tuesday, February 27: Black History Month Jeopardy

o  11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

o  Location: Centre Core

o  Test your knowledge (or learn something new) as you play Black History Month Jeopardy!


·        Wednesday, February 28: Cultural Attire Day

o  Location: across campus

o  There are some many cultures on campus! Show your colors, culture, and share your stories on February 29th


·        Wednesday, February 28: Lunch and Learn

o  11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

o  Location: The Cave (CE1300)

o  Join us for Lunch & Learn in the Cave! First, be part of the conversation and learn by listening to a guest panel of students, alumni and community members who will share their stories and experiences. Then join us for a tasty cultural lunch from a local restaurant, inspired by Afro-Caribbean flavours around the globe.
